The Class 1, District 7 high school speech competition was held at Ste. Genevieve High School on March 15-16. Woodland joined 20 other schools in the district to compete for a chance to qualify for the Missouri State Championships. Aaron Stewart, Peyton Slaughter, Haley Lerwick, Wyatt Roark, and Katelynn Hahs all earned medals for their district performance. Slaughter entered the Humorous Interpretation competition with her version of The 17th Annual Malcolm X. Jefferson Elementary Talent Show, a short play written by Gregory T. Burns. Slaughter performed the entire play alone, memorizing the parts of and switching between the voices of six different characters. Her performance earned her second place at Districts and qualified her to compete at the state level. She will head to Springfield, Missouri to compete against Missouri's best on April 20th. #CardinalPride
