Rawlend Carter Filer was born on January 8, 2009, to parents Kenneth and Shara Simpson. He has two siblings, Kolton and Kinsley. Rawlend is involved in Cross Country, Track and Field, FCA, FFA, FBLA, and Pep Club. His favorite teacher is Mrs. Stegeman because she “inspired me to be a very consistent and hardworking student.” He describes himself as outgoing, diligent, and dependable. If he could travel anywhere, Rawlend would choose New Zealand because he would love the opportunity to travel somewhere outside of the United States.
Rawlend’s favorite high school memory is winning three consecutive state championships with the cross-country team. His most embarrassing moment happened freshman year when he almost threw up in front of the entire school after drinking an unpleasant drink during the cross-country state send-off challenges. When he was younger, Rawlend wanted to become a scientist. Now, he plans to attend Mineral Area College to pursue his PTA. His advice to underclassmen is, “Prioritize habits, not perfection.” Rawlend says he feels “pretty great” about graduating, but he will miss his friends, teachers, and teammates who encouraged him throughout high school. Mr. Layton had the greatest impact on Rawlend, as he was always there for him as a coach, teacher, and friend whenever he needed help or had questions. Rawlend considers his greatest accomplishment to be “Being able to make it all the way to the end and leaving a great history behind all these years.”
