Axle Downing was born on October 6, 2007. He is the son of Gabrielle South and Justin Downing and has one brother, Alex Hixenbaugh. Axle’s favorite teacher is Mrs. Balzer because, as he says, “she’s awesome.” In three words, Axle would describe himself as funny, blunt, and entertaining. If he could travel anywhere, he would choose Alaska because he wants to see the Northern Lights. His most embarrassing school memory happened in fourth grade when his chair was pulled out from under him.
As a child, Axle wanted to become a police officer or a soldier in the military. Now, he plans to join the National Guard and possibly attend the College of the Ozarks. Axle was involved in Drama Club during his time in school. His advice to underclassmen is, “Never set any decision in stone—you’ll change your mind constantly while you’re young.” Axle is ready and excited to graduate, but he will miss the people and the happiness that come from being part of a school family. Mr. Stegeman and Mr. Faulkenberry have had a great impact on him because they helped him understand his personal goals and plan for his future. Axle believes his biggest accomplishment so far is “getting this far with so few resources.”
Shoutouts: Mr. Faulkenberry, Mr. Stegeman, and Officer Jansen.
