Shirley Hendricks was born on July 6th, 2008, to parents Tia and Chad Hendricks, and has two siblings: Anthony and Tyler. She is involved in FCCLA, FCA, BETA club, and is also on the cross-country team. Her favorite teacher is Mrs. Balzer because “She has always been there for me, not only as a teacher but also as a friend.” Other favorites are Mr. Ridings and Mr. Boyer. Shirley describes herself as sassy, bubbly, and funny. If she could travel anywhere, she would choose Florida for its beaches and, most importantly, the food. Her favorite memory is winning districts and placing second at state with her cross-country team, while her most embarrassing moment was wrecking her little red car a few weeks after senior year started.
As a child, Shirley dreamed of being many things, from a baker to a radiologist, and even a zoologist. Today, she has chosen to pursue nursing and plans to become a labor and delivery nurse after high school. Currently, she studies practical nursing at the Cape Career and Technology Center, where she will earn her LPN degree, and then plans to attend Mineral Area College for her RN. To underclassmen, she offers this advice: “Please, for the sake of your peers’ sanity and your personal safety, do not walk slowly in the hallways.” While Shirley will miss “having no big girl responsibilities,” she reflects on graduation feeling surreal, knowing it is her last year. She names her granny and mom as her greatest influences and considers being accepted into nursing school her biggest accomplishment so far.
