Picture of Haley

Haley Rose Lerwick, born on March 3rd, 2007, is the daughter of Chad and Lisa Lerwick and has two siblings, Tom and Dylan. Her favorite teacher is Ms. Stegman, who has helped her discover her talent and love for writing and performance. Three words that describe Haley are creative, social, and thoughtful. If she could travel anywhere, she would choose a cabin in the mountains with beautiful views and a cozy atmosphere, as she has always dreamed of a winter getaway. Hayley's favorite school memory is winning first place in a poetry competition at the Bernie Speech Meet. She was initially convinced that everyone else's readings were better than hers, so she was thrilled when they announced her as the winner. When she was a child, she wanted to be either a tattoo artist or a mother, but now her goal is to attend SEMO to become an art teacher. The clubs she is involved in include Beta Club, Library Club, Speech, and Student Council (STUCO).

The advice Haley would give to underclassmen is, "No one is judging you more than you are; they are too busy judging themselves. Being a kind, good person is a better way to gain friends than trying to seem cool or interesting." Haley feels anxious, excited, and a little sad about graduating. What she will miss most about high school are the tight-knit groups and personal relationships. Her greatest influence is her dad, who has had a significant impact on her life. His attitude toward challenges and his willingness to discuss important but uncomfortable topics have taught her how to be a good communicator in any situation. Her biggest accomplishment so far has been learning to be much less insecure around others. She used to be constantly worried about how others perceived her and believed that the people she wanted to be around wouldn’t want her around in return. This year, she finally realized that being herself and being happy with who she is the best way to be part of a group or community.
